Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival Performance, Morning Practice

Quite a successful practice was had by the OLA School Choir this morning...

OLA’s Part in the Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival Performance, Friday 31 October, 2014

Friday Night Performance

·        On Arrival: School choir members need to be at the Arena BY 6.30pm. Allowance needs to be made for traffic issues close to the Arena. Better to be a little early than late. All school choir children are to enter through the main doors of the Horncastle Arena, and go via Door 1 to the area back-stage which will be designated at the morning rehearsal. No parents will be admitted to this area.

·        In the Waiting Area: Your school name will be on a notice attached to wall where your school is to assemble. Food: NO CHILD is allowed to leave the area to visit the Main Foyer. The children will need to be toileted BEFORE they enter the Arena.

·        Clothing: Full school uniform please. Jackets and sweatshirts should be left with parents as the children become overheated when performing under lights. It is preferable that watches and shiny jewellery are not worn as this sparkles in the lights and causes distraction to the audience.

·        Sweets: No child is to bring sweets, food or drinks unless needed because of medical reasons. If there are medical reasons, please see Mr Grant.

·        Interval: The children DO NOT come out at the half-time interval and the parents ARE NOT ALLOWED into their performance area during interval. Ice creams and other treats which parents may want to bring should be saved until after the performance has finished. Choirs must remain in the seats at the half-time interval. 

·        At the conclusion of the Performance: We will all assemble outside of the arena at the end of the performance, specifically by the No Parking At All Times sign, which is to the right (north) of the main doors. I will not let any child go until their parents come up to me to tell me they are taking their child home.

·        Meals: As the children will be in the CBS Arena from approximately 6.45pm to 9.15pm we suggest they have a sensible meal before the show (preferably not fast food) and a small amount to drink.

·        Contacts: If, for any reason, your child is not able to attend the morning practice or the evening performance, or you can’t find them at the end of the night, or you have any further questions, please ring me

Applications for Special Choir have been Extended

Due to a rush of last minute applications and requests, we have just extended the deadline for Special Group audition applications.

Applications will now close on NEXT FRIDAY, 11th April
for all of you talented singers to audition for a place in one of the special choirs of the 2014 Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival.

Applications can be lodged online on the festival website at www.musicfestival.school.nz.

As at 7.00pm on Friday, 4th April there were 3 pupils from Our Lady of Assumption School who have applied for a Special group audition.

The Special Groups of the Music Festival are the musical equivalent of Canterbury representative sports teams: you have to be quite good to get in.

And just as there is a selection process to get into a Canterbury representative sports team, so there is to select the very best singers and musicians for the Special Groups of the Music Festival.

You have to pass an audition to get in, even if you have been in a Special Group previously.

So, before you apply to audition online, make sure that you that you and your parents have read all the information contained in the links below.
